Burgundians: Timeline
58 B.C.: Julius Caeser defeated the Helvetians forcing them to return home to Switzerland, so they couldn’t settle in Southern France.
First Century A.D.: Burgundians settled on the Vistula in Poland, then moved south and east.
400 A.D.: Several Germanic tribes, including the Burgundians, overran roman fortifications and ended the western part of the Roman Empire. Burgundians then settled in western Switzerland and southeastern France (then known as Burgundy).
Roman troops and the Burgundians had many small incidents, but this never affected the balance of power until now (400 A.D.)
411A.D.: the Emperor Jovinus allowed many Burgundians to establish a federate kingdom on the Rhine, and be under king Gundahar.
435 A.D.: Burgundians tried to expand into Gaul. The Roman general Aetius did not approve of this, so he sent a Hunnic army to destroy Gundahar’s kingdom. Gundahar died, and his death became the basis for the Nibelunglied.
443 A.D.: Burgundians then settled near Lake Geneva under King Gundioc.
443-458 A.D.: Burgundians ceded Roman lands.
451 A.D.: Burgundians joined Aetius in the battle against the Huns. They also fought other Burgundians who had joined the Huns.
456 A.D.: The second Burgundian kingdom was an ally to the Roman empire. They joined Emperor Avitus and went against Suevi of Spain. After the death of Avitus, the Burgundians expanded their kingdom and took Lyon.
534 A.D.: Burgundians could no longer resist the Franks, and then became a piece of the Frankish Kingdom.
Burgundians territory was occupied by the Franks.
820 A.D.: A monastery was founded in St. Gallen in Eastern Switzerland. Monasteries were agricultural (grew fruits).

A description of the Burgundinan people:
The people of Burgundia spoke a language close to the Gothic language. Their ancestors were mostly Scandinavian. The people of Burgundia were once in a friendly relationship with the huns and thus used their custom of tightening bindings on female children and then when people died, they decorated their graves with the skulls of these children. Most of the Burgundians were farmers and many were in the army. The Burgundians though were not the best fighters for they lost battles many a times.
