Knighthood and knights played an important role in Medeival life and the development of the feudal system. It was the introduction of the use of heavy calvary by Charles Martel that increased the importance of the knight in battle and allowed for the development of a whole part of the social aristocracy. With this new class of people, a whole way of life developed which even developed its own code of living. From these beginnings come our modern day competitions between combatants and teams, tournaments.
