The lombards origenal name was langobards  [ long beardes ]  there leaders were cald duces  and they were a germanic tribe in the iron to pre romen age . They began in suthern Sweden and worked thier way down to Italy under the leaders ybro and Agio in the 6th century. they stade in northern italy for 200 years. When they got there some of the people were still pagan. They adopted roman Titels, names and traditions in the 7th century.  Few of the lombards could read or right or had any respect for the old buildings of Italy.  As a result  most of the northern Italy's antiquity was distroyed. In  ( 751 ad ) the eastern romans were expeled from italy. From the lombardes t

Italy became another Germanic area.
